Ceramic artist Suzuki Mikumo creates pottery at her studio in Yamagata City, Yamagata Prefecture. Her simple vessels, free of excessive decoration, are created from clay she collects herself and from her own “kick wheel,” which she spins by kicking. Suzuki’s works are stoically simple vessels, devoid of any excessive decoration, creating pieces with a face that fits easily into daily life without any effort. As a student, she was influenced by the simplicity and beauty of Yi Dynasty ceramics, which were thick, sturdy, and rustic, and were loved by the Japanese who respected wabi and sabi (simplicity and simplicity).
This plate showcases a sophisticated palette of muted pink and green tones, offering a subtle and refined aesthetic, colours as a unique representation of spring. This softer colour scheme provides a gentle, calming presence on the table. The natural presence of dotted pattern after firing adds a touch of whimsical charm without overwhelming the plate's overall design, which enhances the plate's visual appeal. The deep plate form is designed for versatility, making it perfect for daily serving a variety of dishes. Its depth ensures that food is contained and presented beautifully.
