The chashaku is a traditional bamboo scoop designed specifically for preparing matcha. Its curved tip and sharp, nearly 90-degree angle make it easy to reach into narrow tea caddies and measure out just the right amount of powder. Beyond its practicality, it offers a pleasant tactile experience — the natural bamboo feels smooth and comfortable in the hand.
Each chashaku is carefully carved from a single piece of bamboo. Because bamboo is a natural material, every scoop carries its own subtle variations in colour and form, making each one unique.
In a world where so much is measured with precision, preparing matcha with a chashaku embraces a gentle imprecision. A classic serving of usucha (standard matcha) calls for about one and a half heaping scoops — roughly 2 grams of powder. But some days, your scoop may be a little fuller, and other days, a little lighter. Each variation creates its own unique cup, reminding us to savor the small differences that make every matcha moment special.
Available in Purple or Light Bamboo variations.
Caring for Your Chashaku
Follow these simple tips to keep your chashaku in its best condition:
Clean Gently
After each use, wipe with a soft, dry cloth or tissue.
Avoid Water
Do not rinse with water or soap. Bamboo absorbs moisture easily, and a damp chashaku will hold onto matcha powder.
