Step 4: Extinguish the incense when not in use.

For centuries, incense has been employed to foster a serene and tranquil ambiance in both residences and places of worship. Nevertheless, improper handling and usage of burning incense can pose a fire risk. To safeguard yourself and your surroundings, it is crucial to adopt specific measures while burning incense.

To begin with, it is imperative to place the incense burner or holder on a secure, fire-resistant surface, avoiding flammable materials such as tablecloths. Preferably, utilize a burner equipped with a lid to prevent ash from dispersing onto nearby areas.

Additionally, ensure the incense burner is positioned away from combustible objects like curtains, papers, or books, allowing sufficient airflow around it.

Never leave burning incense unattended. When exiting the room, extinguish both the incense stick or cone and the burner. Similarly, keep children and pets away from the burning incense.

When igniting the incense, utilise a lighter or matchstick to light its tip. Once ignited, extinguish the flame and allow the incense to smolder. Avoid leaving the flame burning excessively to mitigate the risk of fire.

Direct inhalation of incense smoke can be detrimental to health. Guarantee adequate ventilation by opening windows or doors. If you have respiratory issues or are pregnant, refrain from inhaling the smoke.

Lastly, ensure the incense stick or cone is completely extinguished before disposal in a trash can or ashtray. Wait for it to cool entirely before discarding it in the trash.

By adhering to these safety measures, you can relish the calming effects of burning incense without harming yourself or your surroundings. Remember, prioritising safety is paramount when dealing with potentially hazardous materials.
